In Chie’s Kitchen: Tropical Fruit Salad

Whenever my mother served us “dessert” this was one of the options she loved to make. Pawpaw (papaya) is the star of this salad and in addition to providing wonderful taste, it’s  rich yellow color indicates a high in carotene- antioxidants that help the body fight diseases.  In addition, pawpaw boasts high vitamin C, folate, magnesium and fiber content.  These nutrients all work together for heart health, disease prevention and good digestion. Pawpaw is a wonderful source of the digestive enzyme papain and as a result can be found in powdered form as a meat tenderizer. Papain is also an effective home remedy ingredients. The powdered form (mixed with water into a paste) has been shown to be effective in  the treatment of  bee, wasp and mosquito bites.

As for me, well, I love my pawpaw and this is how I serve it on any given day.

Begin by choosing the freshest, juiciest fruit that you can find. I like to use papaya, mango, orange, pineapple and banana. Remember, the riper the fruit, the better the salad.

Toss the pawpaw (papaya) and pineapple into a bowl

Slice and dice the mango and add the pieces to the bowl.

Add banana slices

Add orange wedges

Mix all ingredients

Serve!
